Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a safe chemical solution  is applied to the skin to exfoliate the top layers. The purpose of a chemical peel is to "peel" the skin, revealing healthier, smoother, and younger looking skin underneath. Chemical peels can improve uneven skin tone, minimize the appearance of scars caused by acne, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

Chemical Peels FAQ

How do I prepare for a chemical peel?

To ensure that you achieve optimal results from the chemical peel, please adhere to the following prep instructions.

  • Do not exfoliate for 2 weeks prior to the procedure.
  • Stay hydrated prior to the procedure.
  • Avoid excessive sunlight for 2 months prior to the procedure. UV exposure will deter the regeneration of new skin cells and increase the risk of severe side effects.
  • Avoid smoking 2 week prior to the treatment. Smoking will prevent new collagen bonds from forming and make the skin appear swollen after the peel.
  • If you are prescribed Accutane, discontinue use 6-12 months prior to the procedure.

When should I expect to see results from the chemical peel?

The peeling process typically starts within 2-3 days of the peel. After the process begins, it lasts approximately 2-5 days. Therefore, you can expect to see results between 4-8 days after your initial treatment.

How often should I be coming in for chemical peels?

Consistency is key! To reap the best results, we recommend scheduling your following appointment 4-6 weeks after your initial service.

Dermaplaning FAQ

How do I prepare for dermaplaning?

To ensure that you achieve optimal results from dermaplaning, please adhere to the following prep instructions.

  • Do not exfoliate for 3-5 days prior to the procedure.
  • Avoid excessive sunlight for 5-7 days prior to the procedure.
  • Do not wax 1 week prior to the procedure.
  • Please reschedule your appointment if you have open wounds or acne lesions.
  • If you are prescribed Accutane, discontinue use 6-12 months prior to the procedure.

Will dermaplaning cause the hair to grow back thicker and darker?

A common misconception about dermaplaning is that the hair will grow back thicker and darker. The blade creates a blunt tip to the end of the hair which may be interpreted as greater thickness when it grows. However, dermaplaning will not alter the growth, thickness, or color of the hair.

Is dermaplaning painful?

Dermaplaning is actually one of the least painful methods of hair removal compared to techniques including waxing, threading, and laser. Many people describe the sensation as a gentle tickle or brushing of the skin.

Does dermaplaning cause breakouts?

Similar to other exfoliation techniques, dermaplaning prevents breakouts as opposed to causing them. Although it cannot be performed on skin with active acne, it will prevent clogged pores. It also allows skincare products targeted for acne to penetrate into the skin and treat breakouts.
